The shipbuilding arm of Henry Kaiser's Six Companies began building ships for the British in 1940 and for the U.S. Navy in 1942. This collection relates primarily to negotiations between the Kaiser Company and the U.S. Maritime Commission from 1942-1946. The papers contain correspondence, related reports and financial statements concerning contract specifications and extensions to contracts for shipbuilding commissioned by the U.S. Government. The collection also contains pencil sketches; and information on the processes and problems of shipbuilding, such as the amount of labor required.
